What is so great about hemp anyways? Good question! If your not too familiar with hemp ~ it's a fiber that has a finish similar to flax or linen and ramie. It is very quick-growing and has exceptionally long fibers. Cotton fibers are about 20 millimeters long, while the fibers of the hemp plant can reach several meters in length. As well as their much greater length, hemp fibers are stronger more absorbent, warmer and far more environmentally friendly than cotton since a crop of hemp requires no application of herbicides. The more hemp is used, the softer it gets. Incase you didn't know, Hemp fabric "wears-in", instead of "wears-out" that is to say, the fabric gets more absorbent with each use (wash and dry). It has to do with the oils being washed away from the fabric and rendering it "thirsty". Hemp is also naturally resistant to mold, ultraviolet light and odors. It's the porous nature of the fiber that makes it more absorbent, then any other fabric including cotton. This porous nature allows hemp to "breathe," so that it is cool under warm conditions. It will hold holds 3 times its weight! Good reasons to choose hemp as a superior, odor resistant cloth. I think you'll agree. Back to the top

Is odor a problem? Since Perfect Pads™ don't have plastic or adhesive they breathe, keeping the pad and you cooler and drier. The porous nature of Hemp keeps it cool under warm conditions. Bacteria (which causes odor) doesn’t have a chance since it thrives best in a warm, wet environment - like a platicky DISPOSABLE pads! Hence the emergence of “deodorants” in the throw-aways. Odor is not a problem for woman using Perfect Pads™. Back to the top

Can I use Perfect Pads for incontinence? Yes, Perfect pads™ are currently being used by many woman who are experienceing light to moderate urine incontinence. Back to the top

How long will Perfect Pads reusable menstrual pads last? They will last 5 - 7 years if you machine wash and dry. Even longer if you hand wash and hang them to dry. Back to the top

How often do I change my Perfect Pads & how many do I need? You should change cloth menstrual pads about as often as you would store bought pads at first, untill you can gauge your need more accurately. On average, you will need about 10-12 per period depending on your flow and if you wash the pads in the middle of your period or soak them until the end. Try our Panty Protectors™ for your light flow days. Back to the top

What about traveling and camping? Perfect Pads™ are perfect for traveling and camping because you don’t have to worry about running out where you can’t easily find disposables (like on a hiking trail or many developing countries), and you won’t leave a trail of garbage behind you wherever you go! You can hand wash Perfect Pads™ in the sink of your hotel, in a river, stream, lake, ocean, etc. Hang them to dry or lay them out in the sun. Back to the top

How should I clean them? The fabric used to make Perfect Pads™ has been pre-washed but you may want to wash again before using. The hemp fabric in yor Perfect Pads require a few ( 3-4 ) washes in hot water before its maximum absorbency is reached. Cleaning. Back to the top

How absorbent are they? It's the naturally porous nature of the hemp fiber that makes Perfect Pads™ the most absorbent cloth alternative on the market today. More absorbent than any other fabric including cotton. Hemp will hold three times it's own weight! Making it the obvious choice for Perfect Pads™. Back to the top

What's wrong with disposable menstrual pads? Disposable pads that abuse and waste our earth's resources. Most women are unaware of the variety of chemicals (including dioxins) we are putting next to and into our bodies with the use of disposable menstruation products. Research has linked these chemicals to birth defects, reproductive disorders, infertility, depressed immunity, and cancer. As well, toxic shock syndrome continues to cause serious illness and death, and is primarily a result of tampon use. By choosing to use washable cloth menstrual pads, women can substantially reduce their exposure to these harmful toxins and enjoy better health. Back to the top

Cloth pad terminology
AIO - All-In-One: AIOs cloth pads that have a leak-proof layer. This layer usually consists of fabric that has a PUL (polyurethane) backing, polar fleece such as Windpro, or wool. These are the closest in similarity to disposable menstrual pads since they are a one-piece pad. The absorbent soaker material is sewn into the pad.

Snap-on- A cloth pad that is made with a plastic or metal snap mechanism that fastens top (soaker) layer to a bottom piece.

Tuck-in - A two part cloth pad system that has an inner (soaker) layer which is usually a large rectangle piece of material that get folded in thirds then is tucked into the holder. Microfleece: a synthetic, 100% polyester fabric with an altered 'structure.' This altered 'structure' facilitates moisture transfer through the fabric. Does not absorb moisture at all. Instead fleece wicks moisture away from the skin to its soaker panel. Very smooth and soft next to the skin. Back to the top

I don't have a washing machine. Laundromat washing is simple! Follow the simple steps for Dry Method cleaning: Step 1 (home) Warm water suds with mild detergent. Step 2 (home) Rinse and squeeze. Step 3 (home) Hang dry till laundry day. Step 4 (laundromat) Machine or hand wash. Step 5 (laundromat) Tumble or line dry. It's that easy! Back to the top

What about changing pads away from home? A Perfect Pad can be folded down, onto itself and snapped closed, for easy, convenient, leak-proof transport when you are out-and-about. Fold it down and toss it into your duffle bag, purse or backpack. For added peace of mind, you can put the folded-down pad into a zip-lock bag before putting it into your duffle bag, purse or backpack. Back to the top
